A Message from the Chairman Andrew Moor, AMP

New Year, New Opportunities

Happy New Year and welcome to the first edition of CAAMP Update for 2008. The association is poised for another busy and exciting year ahead. Here are just a few opportunities that CAAMP will be actively pursuing:

  • enhancing consumer awareness and education initiatives ensuring Canadian homebuyers are well versed regarding their mortgage options
  • revisiting CAAMP's strategic plan to ensure the association is doing everything possible to meet our members' needs
  • continuing our commitment to the development and promotion of the AMP designation
  • enhancing our government and public relations ensuring the association continues to be recognized as the voice of the Canadian mortgage industry
  • offering exciting industry events – regional symposiums, trade shows and golf tournaments, Hall of Fame Gala, AGM and the National Conference in Vancouver – there are plenty of opportunities to make important connections and gather information to help you grow your business

Regional Symposiums

 

 

 

  • CAAMP’s 2008 spring regional symposium schedule is now available! The symposiums are being held across the country starting in Calgary on March 27, ending in Halifax on June 18. Trade shows are being held in 6 of the 7 locations and booth space is filling up quickly! Don’t miss your opportunity to exhibit at one or all of these events!   • CAAMP is currently accepting proposals from member companies to sponsor and present educational sessions at the spring regional symposiums. The content must provide informative and relevant information for mortgage professionals and meet the criteria for Continuing Education credits for the AMP designation. All proposals must be submitted by Friday, January 25, 2008 in order to be considered. To download the RFP – click here

Education Update

NEW! Online Registration is now available for CAAMP’s education seminars!

CAAMP is pleased to be offering the following courses in a variety of locations over
the next few months:

  • CAAMP’s Ontario Agent Licensing Course – Canadian Mortgage Industry Course designed for agents in Ontario who have not already taken a licensing course and who will have less than two years of experience when the new legislation comes into effect on July 1, 2008. The course also meets the educational proficiency requirement for the AMP designation (see information below regarding FSCO’s free information sessions on the Act)
  • The pre-accreditation seminar – Ethics and Responsibilities for Mortgage Professionals –
    the first step for individuals who want to earn the AMP designation
  • The second mandatory component of the AMP designation – Duties & Responsibilities for Mortgage Professionals

Communications Update

  • CAAMP's first winter AMP advertising campaign began earlier this month in both English and French targeting some 5 million viewers across the country. To view the commercial – click here. CAAMP will also be running an enhanced spring ad campaign - stay tuned for more information!
  • The 2007-2008 CAAMP Membership Directory will be hot off the press next week. Watch for your copy of this invaluable resource to hit your desk!
  • CAAMP members will recently have received the membership online survey. The goal of the survey is to ensure the future direction of the association is in line with the needs of our members and will assist CAAMP in establishing its strategic objectives. If you have not already completed the survey, CAAMP encourages you to do so now – your feedback is important!

AMP Update

Are you an AMP originator who wants to be recognized as a Residential Specialist, a Commercial Specialist or both? Set yourself apart from other mortgage professionals and be identified on the CAAMP website so consumers will be able to find you based on your area of expertise. Government Relations Update

  • The new Ontario Mortgage Brokerages, Lenders and Administrators Act goes into effect on July 1, 2008. After this date, all mortgage brokers, administrators and agents will be required to be licensed with the Financial Services Commission of Ontario (FSCO) in order to conduct business in Ontario. The government recently released the final set of draft regulations under the legislation. To view a copy – click here
  • FSCO is offering FREE information sessions about the new Act and the licensing process in downtown Toronto on February 15, March 7, and May 26. For additional information and to register – click here
  • Bill 73 was recently introduced by the Quebec government. The legislation clarifies that the regulation of mortgage brokerages and brokers will rest with ACAIQ, soon to be renamed OACIQ. To view a copy of the press release on Bill 73 – click here
  • CAAMP recently released a report entitled The Perils of Non-Indexation – Three Tax Issues Affecting Canadian Housing Markets – to view a copy of the report – click here
  • The Ontario Ministry of Finance recently announced a tax break for first-time buyers of resale homes. For more information and to view a copy of the news

  • The Financial Institutions Commission of BC (FICOM) recently released a bulletin which clarifies when mortgage broker registration is required for making mortgage related referrals. To view a copy of the document – click here

Nouvelle année, nouvelles perspectives

Bonne année et bienvenue aux lecteurs de cette première parution de Nouvelles ACCHA de 2008. Voici quelques-unes des occasions que l'ACCHA exploitera activement cette année :

  • rehausser les programmes de sensibilisation et d'information des consommateurs pour assurer que les acheteurs de maisons canadiens connaissent bien leurs options en matière hypothécaire;
  • réviser le plan stratégique de l'ACCHA pour assurer que l'Association fait tout ce qui est possible en réponse aux besoins des membres;
  • poursuite de notre engagement à développer et promouvoir le titre de CHA;
  • rehausser nos relations gouvernementales et publiques pour assurer que l'Association demeure reconnue comme le porte-parole du secteur hypothécaire canadien;
  • événements sectoriels passionnants – symposiums régionaux, salons, tournois de golf, gala du Temple de la renommée hypothécaire, AGA et congrès national à Vancouver – qui constituent autant d'occasions de faire des contacts, d'accumuler de l'information et de développer vos affaires.

Symposiums régionaux

  • Le calendrier des symposiums régionaux du printemps 2008 est maintenant disponible! Ces symposiums auront lieu d'un bout à l'autre du pays, commençant à Calgary, le 27 mars pour finir à Halifax le 18 juin. On tiendra des salons à six des sept symposiums, et les réservations des stands d'exposition vont bon train! Ne manquez pas votre chance d'exposer à l'un ou plusieurs de ces événements.   • L'ACCHA acceille en ce moment les propositions des sociétés membres pour commanditer ou présenter des ateliers de formation dans les symposiums régionaux du printemps. Ces ateliers doivent fournir des renseignements pertinents aux conseillers hypothécaires et remplir les critères des crédits d'éducation permanente du titre de CHA. L'ACCHA est heureuse de proposer les cours suivants au cours des prochains mois:

  • Nouveaux cours préparatoire à la licence d'agent hypothécaire de l'Ontario – Le cours Canadian Mortgage Industry Course est conçu pour les agents de l'Ontario qui n'ont pas déjà pris un cours préparatoire à l'octroi de la licence et qui compteront moins de deux ans d'expérience au moment de l'entrée en vigueur de la nouvelle loi, le 1er juillet 2008. Ce cours remplit aussi les conditions de formation du titre CHA.
  • Le séminaire préparatoire à l'accréditation – Déontologie et responsabilités des experts hypothécaires – première étape pour ceux et celles qui veulent devenir des CHA.
  • Deuxième volet obligatoire de la formation des CHA – Devoirs et responsabilités des experts hypothécaires.

Communications

  • La première campagne de publicité hivernale pour promouvoir le titre de CHA a commencé au début du mois, en français et en anglais, avec un public cible de cinq millions de téléspectateurs au pays. Pour voir le message – cliquez ici. L'ACCHA mènera aussi une campagne publicitaire encore plus étoffée au printemps. Surveillez les informations à ce sujet!
  • Le Répertoire des membres 2007-2008 de l'ACCHA sortira des presses la semaine prochaine. Surveillez l'arrivée de votre exemplaire de cette ressource d'une valeur inestimable!
  • Les membres de l'ACCHA devraient avoir reçu récemment le sondage en ligne. Le but de ce sondage est d'assurer que l'orientation future de l'Association est conforme aux besoins des membres. Il aidera l'ACCHA à fixer ses objectifs stratégiques. L'ACCHA encourage tous les membres à répondre au sondage.

Êtes-vous un conseiller hypothécaire qui désire se faire reconnaître comme spécialiste résidentiel, spécialiste commercial ou les deux? Relations gouvernementales

  • Le gouvernement québécois a récemment introduit son projet de loi 73. La législation précise que la réglementation des courtiers hypothécaires sera du ressort de l'ACAIQ, qui adoptera bientôt le nouveau nom d'OACIQ. Pour lire une copie du communiqué de presse sur la loi 73 – cliquez ici
  • L'ACCHA vient de publier un rapport intitulé Les périls de la non-indexation : trois problèmes fiscaux affectant les marchés canadiens de l'habitation. Pour consulter une copie de ce rapport – cliquez ici
